Congratulations!

Congratulations to Kayla Bachar, who was selected for the Illinois Music Educator's Association All-State Band! The audition that earned Kayla a spot in the IMEA District 1 Band last November also qualified her for this great honor and opportunity.

Beginning on Thursday Kayla will spend two and half days rehearsing with top high school musicians from around the state in Peoria. The event will conclude with an All-State Band, Orchestra, and Choir concert at Peoria Civic Center on Saturday, January 28th.

Incoming Freshman Night at South Campus!

On January 11th (Wed) there will be a short meeting at 6:00 pm in the teacher's dining area (just off the main cafeteria) for all incoming freshmen considering band for the 2012-2013 school year. Information will be presented about the MCHS band program for next year! Mr. Anderson and Ms. Wych will be available to answer questions after the short presentation.

Winter Concert Info

Rehearsals for the Winter Concert are this Sunday, 12/11 and Monday, 12/12.

Fr/Soph Band - 6:00 - 7:30 pm
Jr/Sr Band - 7:45 - 9:15 pm

The Winter Concert is Tuesday, 12/13. Call time is 6:15 pm, with the concert beginning at 7.

MCHS Band Concert Dress Code:

Concert attire is black and white dress clothes. All school dress code rules apply! The dress code can be found on page 37 of the Student Handbook.

Appropriate attire is as follows:

Boys

Black dress pants

Black or white dress shirt

Black socks & dress shoes

Optional: Black or white tie

Girls

Black dress pants with nice black or white top

Black skirt with black tights/leggings and nice black or white top

Black dress with black tights/leggings

Black dress shoes (with black socks or tights)

Girls please note:

Black tights/nylons are required if you are wearing a skirt or dress.
Skirts must be just above the knee or longer - NO shorter! A skirt that only reaches your fingertips is still too short for sitting on a stage in a formal concert setting.
Dresses and tops may be sleeveless (i.e., only open at the shoulder) – spaghetti strap or strapless tops/dresses are not allowed unless you are wearing a sweater over the dress.

If you are unsure if your outfit is appropriate, please see Mr. Anderson or Ms. Wych BEFORE the day of the concert!!

Report time for the Grundy County Corn Festival Parade will be 1:45 pm on Sunday, Oct. 2nd. The band should be returning back to Minooka at approximately 4:45 pm.

Due to the weather forecast of extreme heat for tomorrow afternoon and evening, the band will be wearing our SUMMER UNIFORMS for tomorrow's football game. This includes the orange band polo, black pants, black socks, and Drillmasters.

*Please check NOW to make sure your orange polo and black pants and socks are clean!*

Other uniform regulations are still in effect - no jewelry, unnatural-looking makeup, etc.

Seniors may still change into full uniform for your picture at 4:40 pm.

Call time for all non-senior band members remains 6:30 pm.

Also, please try to wear your orange band t-shirt to school tomorrow to show how much school spirit the band brings to MCHS!

Senior Night/Football Friday!

Report time for band members is 6:30 pm Friday, Sept. 2. This is our first home football game (vs. Providence). The marching band will stay for the entire game. The band will be providing a pre-game show as well as the first public performance of our competition show. The band will also play spirit tunes in the stands to support our FB team! Varsity games usually end sometime between 9:45 pm & 10:15 pm.

Seniors are to report to the main gym at 4:40 pm in full band uniform for pictures.

Minooka Summerfest Weekend!

Report time is 9:30 am on Saturday, August 27th for the Minooka Summerfest Parade/Concert. The parade starts at 10:15 am from the Central Campus parking lot and concludes in the downtown Minooka parking lot. The band will perform a short concert after the parade. We will dismiss immediately after the concert from the parking lot.

Demonstration/Potluck/Information Night!

Students should report to the band room at 5:00 pm wearing their orange band t-shirts and jeans. Parents should drop off potluck items in the cafetorium (central campus) and then come to the stadium for a preview of our 2011 competition show! All relatives and friends of the band are invited for the free show! We will begin at 5:30 pm! After the show, our evening will conclude in the cafetorium with a potluck and an information presentation about our fall marching band season by our MCHS band boosters.

Rehearsal/Band Picture Day/Channahon Parade Info

Rehearsal - August 10th (Wed)

Our first evening rehearsal will be Wednesday (8/10) from 6 pm to 8 pm.

Marching Band Picture Day - August 13th (Sat) Picture time is 9:00 am. Our full marching band will have their picture taken for the fall athletic programs. Students are to report to the band room by 8:45 am to prepare for the picture. Students should wear the summer band outfit. (the same as we wear for our August parades). We should be finished by 9:30 am.

Channahon Parade Info - August 14th (Sun)

Report time is 10:45 am in the band room at Central Campus. All students should wear their orange polo shirt, black "docker style" pants (not skinny jeans!), black socks, and the black "Drill Master" marching shoes.

Our band is unit #37. The parade route starts at Bridge Street/Fryer Street. Parents will have the option to pick up their student when the band arrives at the end of the parade. I anticipate this to be between 1:00 pm - 1:15 pm. The busses will leave to return to MCHS within 15 minutes after reaching the end of the parade. Pick-up location is near the corner of Jessup Street and Bridge Street.

Shorewood Parade / Rehearsal Info

Shorewood Parade

Report time is 10:30 am in the band room at Central Campus. All students should wear their orange polo shirt, black "docker style" pants, black socks, and the black "Drill Master" marching shoes.

Our band is Unit #20 in the parade. The parade route runs south on River Road and then west on Seil Road in Shorewood.

Parents will have the option to pick up their student when the band arrives at the end of the parade. I anticipate this to be between 12:45 pm - 1:00 pm. The busses will leave to return to MCHS within 15 minutes after reaching the end of the parade. Pick-up location is the corner of Wynstone Drive and Fieldstone Drive in Shorewood.

Rehearsal Information

Summer Reminders

We hope everyone's summer is off to an enjoyable and relaxing start! Just a few reminders before you put band out of your mind altogether...

Band camp forms and payment are due Wednesday, June 15th. It is extremely important that all required paperwork be submitted by this date, both to aid in planning on our end and to avoid incurring a $20 late fee on your end. These materials should be mailed to:

Also, make sure to plan on a time for uniform fittings during sectional week. All band members must be fitted for a uniform. Upperclassmen will try on their uniform from last year and have it checked by a Uniform Mom. Freshmen should plan on approximately 30 minutes to be fitted for a new uniform.

Sat, July 23rd (Freshman Day), 12 pm - 4 pm (Freshmen Only)

Mon, July 25, 10 am - 2 pm

Memorial Day Parade

Call time for the Memorial Day Parade is 8:30 am at the band room this Monday, May 30th! (call time for percussion is 8:15 am) We will bus to the parade starting point at Minooka Bible Church. After rehearsing with MJHS band, we will start the parade at 10 am, and then participate in the Memorial Day Ceremony at Veteran's Park presented by the Minooka American Legion. The band will be dismissed from MCHS at approximately 11:45 am.

Black pants
Black socks
Drillmasters (did you take these out of your uniform bag in the fall??)

Make sure you also have your instrument, flip folder, and the three patriotic pieces we will be performing.

Eat a good breakfast and drink lots of water beforehand - it is going to be a hot day!

Spring Concert

Our Spring Concert is tomorrow, Thursday May 12th! Call time is 6:15 for all band students. The concert will begin at 7:00 pm. Performance order will be Concert Band, Symphonic Band, Wind Ensemble, Jazz Band II, and Jazz Band I, followed by announcements and senior awards.

Each student will also have a manilla envelope to pick up from the auditorium lobby immediately following the concert. This envelope contains any letters/patches/pins you have earned this year as well as all your information and paperwork for band camp. Please do not leave without picking up your packet!

Despite the summery weather we've had this week, please do keep in mind the concert dress code:

All the Jr/Sr band members will be playing music for a recognition assembly at South and Central Campus on Tuesday (Mar 8)!

At 8:05 am the Jr/Sr band members will be reporting directly to the band room to load a bus to go to South. After the assembly at South, we will be returning to Central campus to play for the second assembly. Jr/Sr band members will be missing all of first hour and a portion of second hour.

Students are not required to wear orange t-shirts. Jr/Sr. band students who need to be in class first hour for an important test, project, or presentation will be excused from playing the assembly at South.

Fr/So band members will have the option to play with the Jr/Sr pep band at South, if you have your band instrument with you. (fr/so band instruments will NOT be brought to South for you)

Congratulations to our Indoor Percussion Ensemble on their 2nd place finish at the Midwest Percussion Cooperative show this past Sunday. This was the group's first-ever competition, and they put on a fantastic show! Thanks also to Mr. Coon and his staff for all their work getting the Indoor Drumline up, running, and competing this season.

Band Cancelations!

Per MCHS, all school activities have been canceled after school today (tues) and this evening. This includes tonight's basketball game/pep band performance and indoor drum line rehearsal.

School has been canceled for Wednesday, Feb 2nd.

There will be no pit rehearsal or other after-school band activities on Wednesday. Pit rehearsal will be made up on Thursday immediately after school. (3:15 - 5:00 pm)

Be safe, don't drive anywhere, stay warm, and use all this new free time to PRACTICE! :)

Speaking of warm thoughts - Band Camp dates for next summer have been set! The dates will be Sunday, July 31st through Friday, August 5th. The camp will be one day longer this year. We will be arriving home from EIU at approximately 8 pm on Friday.

Just a few reminders - both Jazz I and Jazz II rehearse tonight. Jazz I will also rehearse next Monday, 1/24 and Wednesday 1/26 from 8-9:15 pm (after pit rehearsal) in preparation for their performance at the Winter Fundraiser on Saturday, 1/29. Jazz II will not rehearse again until after the musical is over - stay tuned! Jazz II will be performing again this year at the Channahon Jr High Spaghetti Dinner on March 15th.

Dress code for all MCHS band concerts during the 2010-2011 school year will be black and white dress clothes. All school dress code rules apply! The dress code can be found on page 37 of the Student Handbook.

Appropriate attire is as follows:

Boys:
Black dress pants
Black or white dress shirt
Black dress shoes with black socks
Optional: Black or white tie

Girls:
Black dress pants with nice black or white top
Black skirt with black tights and nice black or white top
Black dress with black tights
Black dress shoes (with black socks or tights)

Girls please note:

Black tights/nylons are required if you are wearing a skirt.
All skirts must adhere to the school dress code -- that is, bottom of the skirt must be at or below your fingertips when you are standing up with your arms at your side. Please consider skirt length when sitting as well as standing.
Dresses may be sleeveless (i.e., only open at the shoulder) -- spaghetti strap and strapless dresses are not allowed unless you are wearing a sweater over the dress.

If you are unsure if your outfit is appropriate, please see Mr. Anderson or Ms. Wych BEFORE the day of the concert!!

IMEA Band/Choir Honors!

Congratulations to Kayla Bachar and Hannah Knorr!

Kayla and Hannah were selected to participate in the IMEA District I Honors Music Festival! They were chosen after a rigorous audition process that selects the best musicians in the Chicagoland area. Kayla will be in the Honors Band playing flute and Hannah will be in the Honors Choir singing in the alto section.

The festival will be held at Lincoln-Way West HS on Saturday, November 20th. The concert will begin at 4 pm and the general public is invited to attend.

The Band Night rehearsal scheduled for 3rd period tomorrow (Tuesday - B day) has been switched to 3rd period on Wednesday (A day) due to a forecast of inclement weather.

Your teachers have been notified of the change. Again - take the bus over to Central on Wednesday, 10/27, NOT Tuesday!

Also - the first playoff game has been scheduled for 1 pm on Saturday, 10/30. Due to the conflict in schedules, the band will no longer be performing in the Minooka Halloween Parade. Call time for Saturday's football game is 12:15 pm.

Congratulations to everyone on an awesome performance at the Mahomet-Seymour Marching Band Festival yesterday!

The band placed 3rd in our class (AAA) and third overall (out of 26 bands), as well as placing third in the Percussion, Auxiliary (guard), and Music caption awards.

What a great end to our competitive season! You have all worked very hard this year and your effort has certainly shown in your performances. On behalf of all the band/guard staff, we are extremely proud of you!

Don't forget though that we do have (at least) three performances remaining this fall.

Band Night - Wed, Oct. 27th at 7 pm (6:15 call time). The Boosters are also hosting a Chili Dinner before this event, so bring your family, enjoy some chili, and support the band.
Football Playoff Game - Fri, Oct. 29th - Time TBA. This is a home game, so attendance is required!
Halloween Parade - Fri, Oct. 30th at 2 pm (call time TBA). Wear black pants and drillmasters. From the waist up, you may wear anything orange and black, or a Halloween costume of your choosing.
If our team wins the football game on Friday (Go Indians!), stay tuned for information on next week's playoff game performance.

Congratulations to everyone on two great performances this weekend!

At NIU on Saturday, the band placed 3rd in class 4A. We also ranked 5th overall out of the 30 total bands in the competition. It was certainly an exciting evening performing in the NIU stadium, and we are very happy with our results! Our music scores in particular showed much improvement from the previous week.

On Sunday, the band competed in the Grundy County Corn Festival Parade, placing first in our class and winning Caption Awards for best horn line, best drum majors, and best color guard.

Great job, band! You had a week of very focused, productive rehearsals and warm-ups coming into this weekend and your hard work definitely showed in our performances.

This week we have rehearsal on Monday, 9/27 ONLY - no practice on Wednesday 9/29 due to the PowderPuff football game. Let's have a great rehearsal and a successful performance at the homecoming football game on Friday! Keep up the good work - your directors and instructors are very excited for the rest of our season.

Your directors/instructors were impressed with your great showing at our first game! There was very good focus during the performance and as a result was well received by the audience! Your positive enthusiasm during the game definitely added to the home "turf" advantage for our team! I think everyone will be looking forward to another "roller coaster" ride at the next game with Kevin. :)

Congrats on your good performance at Summerfest. Our audiences in the parade and at the concert enjoyed our presentation.

Our next rehearsal is Monday, Aug. 30th from 6 pm to 8 pm. We will be spending a great majority of the rehearsal learning drill spots for Part II of our show! We need to have perfect attendance to make the most progress at our rehearsals!

Please note that rehearsal next Wednesday (9/1) will begin our normal rehearsal times for the rest of the season (6:30 pm to 9:15 pm)

Hey, Band! Hope everyone is having a fantastic summer! Two things worth blogging about:

First, band camp forms are due TOMORROW, June 15th! Turn those in to the band room or main office at Central ASAP! Remind your friends to turn in theirs, as well!

Second... it's Game Time! (It is summer after all, right?) We all know I enjoy shameless bribes, especially if they involve getting you to practice. So here's the game:

Any time between now and July 18th, email me a picture of you playing your instrument and a sentence or two describing what you played. (Scales? Band music? Banana Boat?) In return, you will receive a small but fun music-related prize when I see you during sectionals week! Group pictures are accepted and even encouraged! Get together with friends and play some duets or trios on a rainy day, or head out in the front yard and entertain your neighbors. Particularly entertaining pictures may make it onto the blog, but all pictures are accepted! Pending how many people take part in this game (I'm not sure how many people check the blog during the summer!), we may even have a drawing at the end for an even cooler prize.

So... turn in your packets... then take out your instrument and join the game!

A couple reminders as we embark on seven whole weeks with no band:

Turn in your Band Camp forms by June 15th to avoid incurring a late fee. CLICK HERE to access the band website with all necessary form downloads in case you misplaced a few.
Practice your instruments!
Stay active prior to band camp! You will thank yourself when we're down at EIU. Get some friends together and march through the neighborhood! (Kidding... sort of... not really.)

New Uniform Fittings!

The MCHS Board of Education officially approved this special new purchase for our band program last Thursday evening!

All members of the 2010-2011 Marching Indians (including incoming freshmen) are required to come to the MCHS band room during one of the following evenings to get measured for a new band uniform that will be fitted specifically for you! Guard members that are also band members should also attend.

This will only take a few minutes of your time. Please spread the word among other band members!

Fox Valley Music Festival at MCHS!

CORRECTION: The concert tonight begins at 7:00 pm, not 7:30 as previously stated. We suggest arriving at 6:30 pm or earlier to guarantee parking and a good spot in the audience.

The 81st annual Fox Valley Music Festival will be hosted by MCHS for the first time!

The concert will be in the MCHS Central Campus Gymnasium at 7:00 pm on Monday, April 26th. Eighteen schools from the Chicagoland area will be represented in the choir, orchestra, and band.

Attention Jazz Band members:

Jazz II will be performing on Wednesday, March 24th at the Channahon Jr. High Band Boosters' "Italian Pasta Night." This performance will be from 5:30 pm - 6:00 pm. Call time is 4:30 pm at the band room. That Monday, March 22nd, we will rehearse in the band room from 6-8 pm to prepare for the performance.

Jazz I members -- you are welcome and invited to perform with us to help fill out instrumentation! Trombones are definitely needed, trumpets and saxes are appreciated. Especially if you are a CJHS alum, this will be a fun opportunity to perform!

What: In addition to bowling, this event will feature a buffet dinner, live entertainment by both the MCHS Jazz Band and the Road Dogs Band, and Live, Silent, and Basket Auctions.

Playoff Game #2!

The band will be traveling to East St. Louis HS to perform at the playoff game. We will playing spirit songs for our team in the stands!
Special thanks to our MCHS Band/Guard Boosters and MCHS Activities Dept. for providing COACH CHARTER BUSES for this trip!

Report time is 9:00 am on Sat November 7th.
Approximate time of return is 10:30 pm.

Please bring meal money for fast food stops on the way there and on the way back.

Students should wear their orange t-shirts for the game!

Band parents interested in chaperoning this trip should contact Mr. Anderson (randerson@mch.net) as soon as possible.

Jazz II (Ms. Wych)- 6:30 to 7:30 pm
Jazz I (Mr. Anderson) - 7:45 to 8:45 pm
Rehearsals will be on Monday and Thursday evenings.
Rosters are now posted on band room door.

Street clothes tonight -- Wear Black!

For the game tonight, we will NOT be wearing uniforms due to the muddy conditions on the field. Instead we will be wearing street clothes, so wear clothing that will keep you warm for the duration of the football game.

In keeping with the "black out" theme for tonight's game, wear as much black as possible!! Let's black out the field when we perform.

Call time is still 6:00 pm.

Friday Playoff Game

Our first playoff game vs Edwardsville will be at home, this FRIDAY night at 7 pm.

Call time is 6:00 pm. We will be wearing full uniform and performing our halftime show just as we do at regular season games. Attendance is mandatory!

The crowd is planning a "black-out" event and wearing all black to intimidate the other team. This will be a fun environment to perform in, so let's get excited and cheer our Indian football team on to the next round of playoff competition!

Minooka beats Plainfield Central tonight (Fri) 21-13 and are Conference Champs!

Minooka will host a playoff game against Edwardsville this weekend. (Fri or Sat) Date and time will be announced early next week.
Our band will be marching our regular competition show at the game.

The State of Illinois Marching Band Championships at Illinois State University is Saturday, Oct 24th. The schedule for the day is as follows:
9:15 am - Rehearsal at MCHS
10:30 am - Lunnch on your own
11:30 am- Load busses/trailer
12:15 pm - Leave MCHS
1:45 pm - Arrive at ISU
2:00 pm - Change into uniforms
2:45 pm - Warm-up time
3:52 pm - MINOOKA FIELD SHOW PERFORMANCE!
4:40 pm - Band picnic at Fairview Park
6:00 pm - Return to stadium to watch ISU marching band
6:55 pm - 5A/6 Award Ceremony
7:00 pm - announcement of Finalists
8:00 pm - Finals competition
10:00 pm - Finals award ceremony
10:15 pm - Load busses / leave
11:45 pm - Arrive at MCHS (approx)

Location: Hancock Stadium at Illinois State University, Normal, IL

The competition starts at 7:15 am with 42 bands competing in 6 classes.
